99 Nights in the Forest is a survival game where you're dropped into the jungle with almost nothing. No classes, no advantages; everything has to be found. The game doesn't try to create a chill survival feel but pushes you into a fast-paced rhythm: loot during the day and defend your base at night, and this cycle gets increasingly intense.

How to play 99 Nights in the Forest

Gathering resources and upgrading campfires

The early part of the game almost always revolves around gathering resources and upgrading campfires. Charcoal, wood, scrap… everything is needed, because fire is central to unlocking more important things. Simultaneously, you'll have to run around the map, open chests in abandoned houses, and find weapons, bandages, and ammunition.

Hunting and night defense

Hunting also plays a big role. Rabbits, wolves, deer, or bears all provide resources, but you won't always have enough to safely handle them. Especially without armor, even a slight delay can result in significant health loss.

When night falls, the game shifts entirely to defense. You need to build beds, upgrade crafting tables, and place walls or traps to hold your base. Later on, enemies aren't just wild animals; cultists or even aliens are present, making defending your base much more chaotic.

99 Nights in the Forest Tips and Tricks

The most noticeable point is that the game rewards players who prioritize correctly. Upgrading your firepower early allows you to snowball very quickly. Conversely, if you're too busy looting and forget to return before dark, you're highly likely to die along the way.

Ammo is always scarce. A powerful gun without ammo is almost useless, so resource management is just as important as combat.

Some items can completely change the course of the game, such as good armor or rare weapons. And if you acquire things like Temporal Accelerator, the pressure from nighttime is almost completely reduced, giving you breathing room to complete your objectives.

99 Nights in the Forest isn't overly complex in terms of mechanics, but it's quite frustrating in the way it constantly builds pressure. You don't have much time to make mistakes, and every decision significantly impacts your survival. And if that kind of tense, split-second survival loop hooks you, Escape Road 2 takes it in a completely different direction with high-speed urban escapes and constant police pursuit.
