Backrooms is an escape-horror game with haunting golden corridors. You wander through endless residential areas, empty houses, staircases leading to nothingness, and hallways where direction becomes a joke. The deeper you go, the more the game resembles a feverish dream where everything repeats itself, but something always feels wrong.

Backrooms Game Story

Players are trapped in the Backrooms, where the space acts like a living organism. Initially, it's just a quiet neighborhood with identical houses, but the more you explore, the more distorted the world becomes. Sometimes you have to find the pink house; other times you're navigating dark rooms with strange noises emanating from deep within.

The scariest thing isn't the constantly appearing monsters but the feeling of being watched. Sofas appearing in the middle of the street, echoing sounds behind you, rooms with no escape – all of these elements make the game feel like it's slowly eroding the player's sanity.

How to Play Backrooms

Explore and Navigate

The game isn't guided by instructions. You have to memorize the path, look for unusual signs, and pay attention to every small detail. A door of a different color or a strange house could be the escape route.

The game's areas are designed like a maze. Players constantly have to decide whether to turn left, go upstairs, or enter dark rooms. There are no maps, no clear directions. Only a growing sense of unease.

The Atmosphere is the Main Enemy

Backrooms doesn't rely entirely on jumpscares. What makes the game effective is the distorted VHS sound, flickering lights, and uncomfortably long silences. Sometimes, just a small sound in the darkness is enough to make you turn and run.

Backrooms Features

Endless streets at night, endless interconnected rooms, and the game's constantly changing layouts give players the feeling that they've just missed something.

In particular, the map design has a powerful liminal space feel. There are sections that are both beautiful and spine-chilling, as if you're walking through a forgotten memory.

If you enjoy horror games that emphasize isolation, tension, and exploration, Backrooms is a very worthwhile experience. It doesn't constantly try to scare you. Instead, the game makes you imagine your fears, and that's the most unsettling part. After escaping this endless labyrinth, you can change things up with Wurst Dash, a much more chaotic and fast-paced game.
