Block Breaker is a retro pixel-style arcade game that's incredibly familiar to anyone who's played classic brick-breaking games. Your task is simple yet addictive: control a horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen to catch the ball and make it bounce up, destroying all the blocks above. As you play, the speed and number of objects on the screen increase, requiring quick reflexes and precise ball control to prevent the ball from falling to the bottom.

How to play Block Breaker

Objective

The main objective in Block Breaker is to break all the blocks in each level. You control the paddle to move back and forth to catch the ball. When the ball hits the paddle, it will bounce up at different angles depending on the point of impact. If the ball falls to the bottom of the screen, you lose a life and have to start again with a new ball.

Items for the Paddle

During gameplay, you can pick up many helpful items that fall from the broken blocks. Some items make the paddle longer so you can catch the ball more easily. There are items that power up the ball, helping it break bricks faster. The heart icon grants extra lives, while some special items allow the paddle to fire projectiles upwards to break bricks quickly. There are also items that speed up the paddle for easier ball control. However, not all items are beneficial. For example, the octopus icon can slow down the ball or cause disadvantages, so sometimes you should avoid picking it up.

Special Bricks

Beyond simple colored bricks, the game features various types of bricks with different effects. TNT blocks explode upon impact with a ball, destroying surrounding blocks. Some blocks have patterns resembling cheese, building bricks, or diagonal lines, indicating they are more durable and require multiple taps to break. There are also dashed borders showing the location of broken bricks or those that will appear later. Some special blocks can create bubbles upon impact, which bounce around and continue breaking more bricks, creating visually satisfying destruction chains.

Tips and Tricks

  • Redirect the ball to the TNT blocks at the beginning so they help you destroy the first large number of bricks, then finish the rest.
  • Move the ball to the furthest row of bricks by deflecting it diagonally; this will help it bounce high and bounce continuously from one brick to another.
  • For better gameplay, try to keep the ball in the upper half of the screen for as long as possible. This helps you break more bricks in a row without deflecting it too many times.
  • Prioritize picking up items that expand the paddle or create more balls, as they increase your brick-breaking speed. Also, always watch for falling items to avoid negative effects.

Block Breaker is a simple yet captivating game. The classic brick-breaking gameplay combined with various types of bricks and items makes each level more interesting. If you like fast-paced, easy-to-learn arcade games that are difficult to score high marks in, Block Breaker is definitely worth trying. Another fun game is Curve Rush, which is similar and you can try it out.
