Gear Wars is a strategy game that combines troop deployment, evolution, and resource management. While seemingly simple at first glance, the longer you play, the more you realize that winning or losing depends heavily on strategic planning and patience.
In the game, your task is to defend your base at the bottom of the screen while simultaneously sending troops to destroy your opponent's base at the top. Battles are continuous; you don't directly control individual units but focus on producing, upgrading, and evolving your army.

In each battle, the most important resource is meat. At the start of each match, you are given a certain amount of meat. You use this cash to buy troops or gear that support production. After defeating enemies, you receive a reward corresponding to their strength.
Gold is different; it's a resource earned after each battle and used to upgrade permanent stats in the main menu, such as damage or health. These upgrades make subsequent battles easier, especially if you're stuck on a particular level.
The most distinctive feature of Gear Wars is its evolution mechanism. You start in the Stone Age with weak, club-wielding units. When you accumulate enough resources, you can evolve to higher eras such as the Middle Ages, modern times, or the future. Each evolution significantly increases the strength of your army, enough to turn the tide of battle if you were previously struggling.
In the middle of the screen is the gear area—where you determine the speed and quantity of troops produced. Basic troop gears generate units over time, while duplication gears increase the speed or quantity if placed strategically next to each other. Even a slight change in placement can significantly increase troop production speed.
After getting the hang of it, Gear Wars feels quite similar to Ragdoll Arena in that you don't need to do too much, but one wrong decision at the wrong time can cause the match to go downhill. Both games are more about calculation and waiting for the right moment than quick reflexes or constant button mashing.
After the first few chapters, Gear Wars becomes more engaging thanks to the feeling of watching your army gradually evolve through each era. With patience in upgrading and a proper arrangement, the game isn't too difficult but still engaging enough to keep you playing.
