Hole Arena is the kind of game that looks simple at first glance: you control a black hole roaming around a city and... eating everything in sight. However, once you actually play it, you realize it’s not quite that simple. Every battle is so fast paced - everything is almost chaotic from start to finish and you always have the feeling that you're battling to keep up with the pace of the game rather than actually having control over it.

In the beginning you are virtually entirely harmless. Only little objects like chairs, signs, trees or money laying on the streets can be eaten. This first phase is critical, because it sets the pace for how big you can go to match the beat of the game.
The sensation at this stage feels a bit like a frantic scavenger hunt; you simply swallow whatever you see that is edible, without having many options to choose from.
After playing for a short while, you’ll discover that you aren't the only one on the map. Other holes begin to appear, and here’s the interesting twist: they are also devouring everything, just like you.
If you encounter a hole larger than your own, your best bet is to steer clear. There are no complex combat mechanics involved; it’s simply a matter of getting sucked in and losing. Sometimes, your chosen skin or camera angle might make it difficult to determine whether you can consume a specific opponent; in such cases, check the leaderboard to see who ranks higher—you or your adversary.
Once you’ve grown to a sufficient size, you can swallow entire vehicles, buildings, and even sections of the city. The pacing of the gameplay here is so amazing, this type of experience where every region you pass through is left in utter desolation as you progress.
But don’t get too comfortable because if a bigger opponent comes up all of a sudden, it may go right back to square one in a heartbeat.
Hole Arena offers a highly addictive gameplay rhythm: fast-paced, streamlined, occasionally chaotic, and at times a tad frustrating when you get swallowed unexpectedly. Head into the city and devour everything in sight, become the dominant force that strikes fear into your rivals, or run for your life to avoid being caught by larger holes. If you enjoy this style of lighthearted, destructive gameplay, you might also find Solar Smash intriguing in a completely different way.
