Only Up! is a third-person climbing game where you control a character conquering a floating world filled with patchwork objects. There's no clear map, no specific directions, and most importantly: everything is upward. The initial feeling is quite simple, but the higher you climb, the more straightforwardly the game reveals its harshness.

How to Play Only Up!

Movement and Navigation

Players will jump across narrow surfaces, from familiar objects like wooden crates and rooftops to incomprehensible floating things. There are no fixed paths; you must observe and choose your direction yourself. Camera angle and distance are crucial. Just a slight deviation, and the jump will turn into a fall.

Risks from Height

The game has almost no significant checkpoints. When falling, you can lose a significant amount of progress. This makes each move carry its own weight, forcing players to maintain constant caution. Not every section is difficult, but even a small mistake at high altitudes can have a significant impact.

Pace and Path Selection

From a conventional perspective, you can play slowly and steadily. But for those who want to optimize their time, finding faster paths is inevitable. There are shortcuts that allow you to skip entire areas, but these often come with high risks. Players must weigh safety against speed, depending on their goals.

Only Up! Features

Only Up! doesn't rely on complex mechanics to create challenges. Instead, the game utilizes the open space and altitude to create pressure. An interesting aspect is how the game gradually helps players remember their journey. After each fall, you look back and realize you've gained a better understanding of the terrain, the slippery spots, and the jumps that require composure.

Additionally, the difficult sections are usually not long, but are placed in locations that easily create psychological pressure. Once you've climbed a considerable distance, maintaining stability becomes more important than taking risks.

Only Up! doesn't try to please players with quick rewards. It keeps things minimalist, letting the journey itself create value. If you're patient, each small climb feels very real. Not a loud victory, but a quiet progress, accumulating with each attempt. And if you’re in the mood for something that shifts that slow patience into tight rhythm and fast precision, Geometry Arrow takes you in a completely different direction.
