Run is one of those classic Flash games that many of you probably played as kids—maybe sneakily on the school computer, killing every minute before the teacher found out. With its simple style and minimalistic yet captivating visuals, the game is both relaxing and nerve-wracking as you try not to fall into the endless void.

How to play Run

The run has 50 levels, which start out relatively easy, slow-paced, and not very challenging. But as you progress, the difficulty increases dramatically: more gaps, fewer platforms and faster reflexes are required. You control a small character running through space tubes, where you can run straight or rotate gravity to walk on walls.

The character has a fixed speed—you can’t run faster or slower—so all timing comes from navigational skills and carefulness. If you fall out of the tube, you have to start the level over again. Luckily, the death animation is quick enough to not be too annoying, but losing 10 seconds just to fall at the end of the level is enough to make you regret it.

Run Controls

  • Move left/right to change direction.
  • Jump (spacebar) to cross gaps.
  • Use the wall by rotating gravity—it helps to avoid obstacles and choose the optimal path.
  • Limit the wall rotation too much, because it will lose rhythm and speed.

Gameplay tips and strategies

  • The top priority is to avoid dying, as each fall wastes valuable time.
  • Limit the wall rotation when not necessary: Each rotation will cause the character to slow down a bit.
  • Find the optimal path: Many levels have a less dangerous path, sometimes designed to be on the wall instead of the ground.
  • Don't be afraid to use the wall when necessary. Although it may take a moment, using the wall is more economical than dying and having to replay the entire level.
  • Focus on the final stages: From around stage 30 onward, the difficulty ramps up dramatically, requiring you to use all your skills.

What's special in Run?

  • Minimalistic, trippy visuals: A static star background and solid-colored tubes in front give the impression of gliding through three-dimensional space.
  • Despite being a simple Flash game, the game can genuinely excite you as you approach the end of a challenging stage.
  • Highly social: There are people who have held the world speedrun record in all three modes—normal, fast and super fast—for three years in a row.
  • Highly addictive: Once you start, it's difficult to stop until you've completed all 50 stages.

Run isn't a spectacular game. But its simplicity makes it an unforgettable experience. Whether you're playing for fun or trying to break your death record, every run is a thrill. And when you fall into the void for the thirteenth time in the same level, you will understand why this game lives forever in the memories of many people. Discover part 2 of the game at Run 2.
