If you are familiar with the rotating pipes of Run or the tight maze structure of Run 3, Run 2 will make you a bit confused. The game completely deviates from the familiar mold, creating an open space where long and short platforms and long and short jumps become the main challenge.
You can choose between two routes: the normal path or the skater path. Each route has 25 completely different stages, bringing the total number of stages to 50, not to mention bonus levels if you collect enough bonus points.
You control a character who can run and jump and cling to walls to change the direction of gravity—a familiar specialty of this game series. However, in Run 2, the playing space is no longer a tube or cube like other versions but expands with many deadly gaps. The jump pads are sparsely spaced, requiring you to be more precise in calculating speed, jump angle, and wall-gripping delay.
One thing to note: when the character clings to the wall, the game will make you pause for a beat. This has a huge impact on levels that require speed or when you are speedrunning.
Choosing Skater character will open up a completely different experience. The character slides faster and jumps farther, but the controls are also smoother and harder to control.
New players may find this gameplay counterproductive, but once you get used to it, the feeling of “flying through obstacles” is really addictive. Veteran players even think that Skater is the best way to experience this game, although it is also home to the most nightmare levels in the game.
